Red light has the longest wavelength and the slowest vibratory rate.


Red light has been shown to stimulate the heart and thus blood circulation. It also fortifies the body and helps build up red blood cells.

Red is a very powerful and aggresive colour, associated with a high level of energy and stimulation. It goes hand in hand with adjectives such as courageous, antidepressant, assertive, determined, friendly, warm and sensual. On the other hand, too much of some reds can make people feel irritable, impatient and even angry. Try to use somewhat subdued shades of red, like terracotta, or, if you wish to use bright red, assess how much you can use to make it a profitable addition to your environment without getting overwhelmed.

Red will arouse instincts of self-preservation and survival, stimulating the senses and bringing out the spontaneous primal urges. It relates to the base of the spine, adrenals, kidneys, bladder, colon, spinal column, legs and blood.

People who like to wear red tend to be ambitious, impulsive, excitable and energetic. They tend to be high achievers, courageous and extroverted, which can make them good leaders.

Because of its stimulating effect, red is well suited to rooms where movement and activity are high, like the hall, staircase, exercise room or kitchen. But remember, you don’t need to paint all the walls red to get the beneficial effects of this colour. If you are not sure how much impact it will have, try it as an intermediate or accent colour first. Because of its association with aggression its use in public spaces should be considered – you certainly would think twice before using it in a bar.

While in graphic and web design, red brings text and images to the foreground. Use it as an accent colour to stimulate people to make quick decisions; it is a perfect colour for ‘Buy Now’ or ‘Click Here’ buttons on Internet banners and websites. In advertising, red is often used to evoke erotic feelings (red lips, red nails, red-light districts, ‘Lady in Red’, etc). Red is widely used to indicate danger (high voltage signs, traffic lights). This colour is also commonly associated with energy, so can be used to promote energy drinks, games, cars, items related to sports and high physical activity.

Words associated with red are intense, stimulating, courage, energy, war, blood, danger, strength, power, passion, desire, love, safety, Christmas and sex (red nails, lady in red, red lips). Red is a very noticeable colour, which is why it is used for things such as stop lights, stop signs and fire equipment. It is often used in logo design to grip the viewer’s attention and has been known to raise one’s blood pressure or make people hungry. It’s also commonly used in national flags, because of it’s association with courage, power and strength.

Although Ferrari’s logo is yellow and black, it is no surprise that that the main signature colour for their brand is the colour red, the colour that most Ferrari’s are painted. Power, aggression, energy, stimulation and even sensual. This is exactly what you would expect from the maker of a supercar.
